Naivas Supermarkets has strengthened its retail expansion strategy with the official opening of a new branch at Newgate Square in Kamakis, reinforcing its ambition to deepen its presence in Kenya’s fast-growing residential and commercial centres.
The new outlet becomes part of Naivas’ network of more than 110 stores nationwide and marks another milestone as the retailer celebrates 36 years in business.
The expansion underscores the supermarket chain’s strategy of positioning stores closer to emerging urban communities while capitalising on growing consumer demand for one-stop shopping destinations.
Located along the rapidly developing Kamakis corridor, the new store is expected to serve a diverse customer base, including young professionals, homeowners, entrepreneurs, students, commuters and established families.
The branch offers a full-service shopping experience featuring fresh produce, a butchery, bakery, delicatessen and ready-to-eat meals, alongside groceries, household essentials, electrical appliances, cookware, clothing, health and beauty products, baby care items and other lifestyle products.
Naivas says the integrated retail model is designed to enable customers to complete all their shopping under one roof, reflecting changing consumer preferences for convenience and value.
The retailer is also maintaining its investment in digital commerce through its online shopping platform, allowing customers to order products for delivery to their homes or workplaces.
The official opening was led by Naivas Supermarkets Chief Executive Officer Andreas von Paleske and attended by Retrak Kenya Chief Executive Officer Wambui Mbarire and Kevian Kenya Group Director of Sales and Marketing Polycarp Igathe.
Speaking during the launch, Naivas Chief Executive Officer Andreas von Paleske said the new outlet reflects the retailer’s long-term commitment to expanding alongside Kenya’s growing communities.
“Opening this store during our 36th year is an important milestone in the Naivas journey. It reflects the trust that Kenyan families have placed in us over three and a half decades and our commitment to continue growing alongside them. Every new Naivas store is more than another location, it is a promise to bring Fresh. Quality. Choice. & Bei Poa. closer to the communities we serve. Kamakis is one of Kenya’s fastest-growing residential and commercial corridors, and we are delighted to become part of its everyday life. As Kenya grows, we will continue investing in communities, ensuring more families have a Naivas nearby whenever they need us.”
The opening also highlights the retailer’s wider contribution to local economic development through job creation and stronger supply chain partnerships.
Naivas said the new branch will support local farmers, manufacturers, distributors and suppliers while contributing to the continued growth of the Kamakis commercial corridor, one of the fastest-expanding retail and residential hubs on the outskirts of Nairobi.
The company also acknowledged the role of its supplier network in maintaining consistent product availability and competitive pricing across its stores.
In addition, Naivas recognised the developers of Newgate Square for investing in a modern retail destination, noting that it is the first major retailer to establish operations within the mixed-use development.
The supermarket chain said its presence is expected to help position Newgate Square as a key shopping and commercial hub serving residents, businesses and visitors.
From its beginnings as a single neighbourhood supermarket 36 years ago, Naivas has grown into Kenya’s largest home-grown supermarket chain, with a nationwide footprint spanning more than 110 outlets.
The Kamakis expansion reflects the retailer’s continued focus on bringing its “Fresh. Quality. Choice. Value. Bei Poa.” proposition closer to consumers while strengthening its position in an increasingly competitive retail market.
As Kenya’s urban centres continue to expand, Naivas says it remains committed to growing alongside communities by investing in accessible retail outlets that combine convenience, affordability and a comprehensive shopping experience for Kenyan households.
