Naivas Supermarkets marked 36 years of serving Kenyan households and communities through the Kilima Mbogo, Ol Donyo Sabuk National Reserve Tree Planting Initiative, an environmental conservation exercise aimed at planting 10,000 seedlings across 8 acres.
The initiative took place at Ol Donyo Sabuk National Reserve in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). It reflected Naivas’ continued commitment to
environmental restoration, biodiversity protection, ecosystem conservation, and Kenya’s national environmental sustainability agenda.
As a homegrown Kenyan retailer serving millions of households every week, Naivas recognises that its responsibility extends beyond the retail shelf. Healthy ecosystems, reliable rainfall, fertile soil, and resilient communities are essential to the food systems and supply chains that sustain Kenyan families.
Speaking during the initiative, Naivas Chief Executive Officer, Andreas von Paleske, said, “Environmental restoration, protecting our environment and safeguarding our biodiversity are core values that Naivas holds.
As we marked 36 years of serving Kenyan households and communities, it was important for us to come together and take practical action for the environment.
Through this initiative at Kilima Mbogo, Ol Donyo Sabuk National Reserve, we set out to plant 10,000 seedlings across 8 acres, but our commitment goes beyond the numbers. What matters most is that these seedlings survive, grow, and contribute to the restoration of this important ecosystem for years to come. This is Naivas Ni Kwetu in action: recognising that Kenya is our home, and that protecting our environment is part of protecting our shared future.”
For Naivas, the Kilimambogo Tree Planting Initiative was more than a single-day activity. It was a practical expression of Naivas Ni Kwetu, the belief that Kenya is home and that protecting the environment is part of protecting the communities, households, and future generations the retailer serves.
The initiative brought together Naivas employees, partners, community stakeholders, and conservation champions in a shared effort to restore forest cover and build climate resilience. It was also one of the largest single-day environmental activations undertaken by Naivas.
Naivas emphasised that the work would not end with the planting exercise. In collaboration with KWS, the company will support watering, maintenance, monitoring, and long-term care to improve seedling survival and growth.
The initiative also reinforced the broader role Naivas continues to play in supporting people, communities, suppliers, partners, and the environment. As Naivas celebrates 36 years, the company remains committed to growth that is meaningful, responsible, and rooted in the communities it serves.
