By Evans Mutinda Opposition leader Stephen Kalonzo has unveiled The Ukombozi Alliance, replacing the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party in a major rebranding move ahead of the 2027 General Election. The new political vehicle was unveiled after Kalonzo convened a joint National Executive Council and Council meeting bringing together senior opposition leaders and representatives of coalition parties. Among those present were former Jubilee chairman David Murathe, DP Party Leader JB Muturi, DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Mohamed Ali alias Jicho Pevu, Caroli Omondi, Omingo Magara, Ole Kenta Moitalel, Lenny Kivuti and George Wainaina. Kalonzo, who leads Wiper Patriotic Front and The Ukombozi Alliance, said the new name was anchored on a broader political mission centred on what he described as the liberation of Kenya. He linked the rebranding to Wiper’s “Komboa Kenya” and “Ni Ukombozi Time” campaigns, while calling for opposition leaders to put aside individual ambitions and unite around a common political cause. “This is about a cause that is greater than any individual leader, political party or personal ambition,” Kalonzo said. The rebranding comes as opposition parties intensify efforts to consolidate their political bases and forge a wider coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. Kalonzo said unity would remain central to the new alliance as it seeks to bring together parties, leaders and supporters from across the country. Siaya Governor Jamesa Orengo, welcomed the new political formation and urged Kalonzo to remain steadfast in the journey. “The time is now,” Orengo told Kalonzo. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding The Ukombozi Alliance into a broad opposition platform, setting the stage for a fresh round of coalition-building and political realignment ahead of 2027.
