Governor Mutai struggled to explain how Sh.200 million in water revenue went missing in Kericho

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been invited by the Senate County Public Investments and Special Funds committee to thoroughly examine and audit the books of all Kericho County Water companies in the wake of a significant loss of over  Sh.200 million in water revenue due to both commercial and non-commercial factors that the county has purposefully neglected to address.

Kericho Governor Eric Mutai, appearing before the committee, admitted the losses but could not commit to timeliness or swift measures to tame the losses.

On non-revenue water losses, Kericho Water and Sanitation Company has been queried to be making up to 60 percent of Water losses, a performance that the committee noted was untenable, and it is now contemplating a recommendation to close down the county water entity.
