Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has called on government leaders to adopt innovative and sustainable ways of generating revenue instead of relying heavily on borrowing.
Nyoro spoke during the Kiharu Fanikisha Program Graduation Ceremony at Ihura Stadium, where 1,135 youth and young adults graduated from various fully funded short courses under the Kiharu NG-CDF. Nyoro emphasised the importance of fiscal discipline.
“The government owns significant assets that can be used to generate revenue. We need to think innovatively and sustainably rather than constantly running to borrow,” said Nyoro.
He added, “When we borrow excessively, a large portion of our revenue goes into servicing interest on loans, leaving very little for development or essential services.”
A vocal advocate for economic prudence, Nyoro warned that the burden of public debt ultimately falls on ordinary Kenyans. He urged elected leaders to make wise financial decisions during their term, noting that they will be judged by their performance come election time.
Commenting on the ongoing debate surrounding the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), Nyoro said the discussion highlights a deeper issue of resource scarcity. “We must ensure that resources are used transparently and efficiently. If not handled properly, Kenyans will not see the benefits of devolution or development,” he stated.
The Kiharu Fanikisha Programme has been instrumental in empowering local youth by providing them with market-ready skills.
The graduation ceremony, held at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a Town, marked a significant milestone in the constituency’s continued efforts to invest in youth empowerment through education and skills development.
