PSC Commissioner Ameso donates Sh3 Million to support needy students

Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Racheal Ameso has committed more than Sh3 million to support the education of 300 day-school students from Kakamega County.

The funds were disbursed over the weekend during a ceremony held at a hotel in Kakamega town, where each beneficiary received Sh10,000 to help offset school fees through the Raphael Ameso Foundation.

Ms Ameso, who is seeking to reclaim the Kakamega County MP seat in the 2027 General Election, said the initiative was informed by the rising number of bright but needy learners at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship.

“Today was a very emotional and fulfilling moment in my journey of service as I supported the education of bright and needy children from across the county,” she said.

The event was attended by Members of the County Assembly, teachers, parents and local education stakeholders.

Ms Ameso revealed that she had initially planned to support a smaller number of students but expanded the programme after hearing firsthand accounts of the struggles many families are facing.

Beyond school fees, the former Kakamega Woman Representative also distributed sanitary towels to female students, encouraging them to remain focused on their studies and recognise the transformative power of education.

“Education gives you dignity, confidence and a voice. No child should be denied that opportunity because of poverty,” she told the learners.

She warned that lack of school fees continues to push many children out of classrooms, exposing girls to early marriages and boys to crime and other anti-social behaviour.

Ms Ameso assured beneficiaries that the scholarship programme would be sustained, adding that her foundation will monitor their academic progress to ensure the support yields tangible results.

Describing education as a key driver of sustainable development, she urged the students to work hard and remain disciplined.

“During my tenure as the first Kakamega Woman Representative, I supported the education of many needy children. I have continued to do so even after leaving elective office,” she said.

She pledged to scale up similar initiatives if elected Kakamega County MP, saying investment in education will remain one of her core priorities.
