Where is Siyat Abdi Omar? Ijara MP Seeks answers from security agencies

Ijara Member of Parliament Abdi Ali has asked the National Assembly to seek answers from the government over the disappearance of Siyat Abdi Omar, who was allegedly abducted by people believed to be members of the security forces in Hulugho Sub-County, Garissa County, on September 27, 2026.

In a statement request before the house on Thursday, Ali asked the Chairperson of the Committee on Administration and Internal Security to provide details of the missing man’s whereabouts and the progress of police investigations.

Omar, a resident of Hulugho Sub-County in Ijara Constituency, was reportedly abducted in Sarirah Location. He has remained missing since the incident, despite efforts by his family and members of the community to trace him.

The incident was reported at Hulugho Police Station under Occurrence Book No. 02/30/09/26, according to the statement request submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly.

“Despite widespread efforts by his family and community to trace him, Omar’s whereabouts remain unknown,” Ali stated.

Ali said the family had not received official communication from security agencies explaining the circumstances of the disappearance or providing information about the investigation.

“The incident has left his family in profound distress, uncertainty, and anguish,” the statement reads.

The MP expressed concern over what he described as limited progress in the investigation and the absence of updates to the family.

“Unfortunately, as of today, there has been little progress in the investigation, with the family yet to receive any official updates or information from security agencies regarding the circumstances of his abduction or his current whereabouts,” Ali stated.

Ali wants the committee to establish what investigators have done to locate Omar and determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

He is also seeking information on measures being taken to ensure the missing man is found and reunited with his family, and that those responsible are held accountable if wrongdoing is established.

The request asks for details of “actions being taken by the security agencies to ensure that the missing person is expeditiously traced and reunited with his family and perpetrators of his disappearance are brought to book.”

The MP further wants the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to explain the measures in place to protect residents of Hulugho Sub-County, amid concerns over the safety of people living in the area.

The request places responsibility on the parliamentary committee to seek an official account from the relevant authorities. It does not, however, establish who was responsible for Omar’s disappearance or provide a response from the police or the ministry.

The case leaves Omar’s family waiting for answers as Parliament is asked to pursue information on his whereabouts and the status of the investigation.
