Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi has apologised to Life Water Canada over remarks he made accusing the organisation of wrongdoing, saying the NGO is credible, transparent and accountable.
Mulyungi, who chairs the Decentralised Funds Account Committee, said he had reconciled with the organisation after issuing a press statement on Wednesday confirming that the differences had been resolved.
He said he subsequently held an online meeting with the directors of Life Water Canada, which he described as “very fruitful”, leading to an agreement on how the two sides would work together going forward.
“Today, I want to categorically apologize to life water Canada for the heartbreaking remarks I made about them and the damage I may have caused to the character of their organization,” Mulyungi said.
The MP further withdrew the allegations against Life Water Canada and Life Water Rescue, affirming that the organisations were not involved in corruption.
“I want to confirm that Life Water Canada and Life Water Rescue are credible organizations, transparent, accountable, honest and very cooperative, and they are not engaged in any corrupt deals in mwingi central or anywhere else in Kenya.”
Mulyungi said the two sides had agreed on a cordial working relationship aimed at strengthening their partnership and ensuring continued provision of water services to residents.
“We agreed on a cordial modus operandi moving forwarding in order to cement further our working relationships we have created over the years.”
The legislator highlighted the contribution of Life Water Canada to water access in Mwingi Central, saying the organisation has drilled more than 100 boreholes in the constituency.
“So far, life water Canada has drilled over100 boreholes, covering close to 50% of the schools in my constituency. They have also drilled boreholes in villages within the community and have constructed several ablution blocks in schools and supplied water tanks/piped washhand tops in all the schools in the constituency.”
Mulyungi assured residents that Life Water Canada would continue operating in the constituency in partnership with the community and his office.
“I want to confirm to the people of Mwingi Central that the NGO will continue working in the constituency un-abeited and in close partnership with the community and my office.”
He also urged residents to continue applying directly to the NGO for boreholes, as they had done previously.
“I want to encourage the people of mwingi central to continue applying for boreholes directly to the NGO as they have been doing before.”
The latest statement marks a shift from Mulyungi’s earlier remarks, with the MP now seeking to reaffirm his working relationship with the organisation and acknowledge its contribution to improving access to water and sanitation facilities in Mwingi Central.
